Site-Specific Safety Plans (SSSPs)
Presented by Jorge De La Torre, Hutton Construction
Jorge De La Torre is the Director of Safety for Hutton, where he leads the development and execution of comprehensive safety strategies across the company’s construction operations. With over a decade of experience in environmental health and safety, Jorge is known for his ability to connect field realities with leadership vision. He is an OSHA-authorized trainer, a respected safety professional, and a frequent speaker on the topics of culture, risk, and accountability. His mission is to create environments where safety is not just a requirement, but a way of working, thinking, and leading.
This workshop is split into two dynamic parts, giving participants both the mindset and practical tools to safer projects by building trust, improving clarity, and improving team collaboration. The workshop takes approximately 45 – 60 minutes, depending on the number of participants and the desired results.
In Part One (20 – 30 min), we focus on communication, not just what we say, but how we say it, and how it’s heard. Through a hands-on, team-based challenge, we’ll uncover how assumptions, unclear direction, and lack of feedback can quickly break down a plan. Participants will walk away with practical strategies to improve how safety information is shared and understood on-site.
In Part Two (20 – 30 min), we turn that communication into action by focusing on Site-Specific Safety Plans (SSSPs). We’ll explore why a SSSP is required and what makes an SSSP actually useful, not just compliant. As well as how effective planning can better reflect real project conditions, tasks, and risks. Participants will learn how to create plans that are collaborative, relevant, and ready to be lived out in the field.
Whether you’re a project manager or leading crews in the field, this session gives you tools to align your teams, improve your safety planning process, and turn conversations into safety protection.
